CRP Levels.  What is the deal?
Current thinking on the valence of hs (high sensitivity) CRP levels are that they appear to be a
   a. more sensitive predictor of CVD risk than LDL-C and
   b. may identify a different population at risk than simply LDL-C alone.
Interpretation: Perhaps both LDL-C and hs-CRP levels may be more useful than either alone for predicting risk.  AHA (January 28, 2003) currently recommends measuring both LDL-C and hs-CRP in patients with a ten year Framingham risk score of >10-20%.

1) Comparison of C-Reactive Protein and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels in the Prediction of First Cardiovascular Events.

2) AHA Position on CRP. General summary recommendations that for patients with 10-year Framingham risk score of between 10-20% hs-CRP is recommended (Grade B), if <10% (Grade C).
Relative Risk Category hs-CRP level:
Low <1 mg/L
Average 1-3 mg/L
High >3 mg/L

3) C-Reactive Protein, the Metabolic Syndrome, and Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Events.
